Rincon Puerto Rico Surfing

  During the winter, we get surf.  When the surfs up at Villa Orleans, in Puntas they are huge.  I've seen 20 footers roaring like freight trains.

  The best surfing areas are 10 minutes from the villa. The villa faces south.  The best waves are on the northwestern part of Rincon, surrounding the old nuclear power plant called Domes.  Here the scoop from my friend Todd who moved to Peru:

• Tres Palmas: Biggest waves on the island with possible 20 ft plus.  It's offshore, fast and dangerous. Corals and rocks inside. Requires a long paddle out and a strong will to withstand scary cleaner sets. This break  is for experienced surfers.  Sets sometime consist of 10 plus waves, when wave height is 15 feet.
  
  Marias: Good right, needs pretty large swell.  Don't overestimate the spot, some rocks around.  Faces around 3-10 feet.

  Domes: Mostly rights, with occasional lefts.   Faces from 2-7 ft.  Sometimes strong undercurrent.  Most consistent spot in  Rincon. Usually crowded.

• Sandy Beach:  Great beginner's beach. When the swell is appropriate good lefts from the rock area.
  
  Indicators:  Good right, with good power. Pipe and coral bottom. Rocks can stick out on low tide.
